Before we think about the genre of the movie in depth we should first make ourselves familiar with another theory that places importance on the director - this is the Auteur theory.

There definitely seems to be some connections...
- Working with the same cast/crew
- Working with Film4
- About outsiders - those on the fringes or the underbelly of society
- Groups of friends
- Male protagonists - not heroes
- Adults seem corrupt, youth is presented as innocent
- Money is often a motif or something that a significant plot point revolves around
Many of these connections are thematic and institutional - this may not be enough to consider Danny Boyle as an auteur...
