The Nine Project Choices

You have nine projects to choose from, each of which is designed to give you the opportunities to investigate a specific area of the media in depth whilst still keeping to the three main topics required by the exam board. Namely; genre, narrative, representation.

Although you are limited to a choice of nine projects the choice of texts you analyse in your essay is entirely up to you. The list below links to a specific page for each project which will give you more information to help you decide which project is best for you.

Choose carefully. You will be researching and studying this area of Media Studies for the next eight months. Also be sure that you know what is required of you for the practical project - remember that it is worth as many marks as the essay and can't be rushed and must be very professional.
  1. Video Games; investigating, genre, narrative and postmodernism
  2. Representation of gender in women's magazines
  3. Representing fear; moral panics in the press and online
  4. Investigation into narrative and music video
  5. Documentary: Genre/Narrative/Realism
  6. Alternative narrative structures in film
  7. Representation of homosexuality in film
  8. Genre and the British Social Realist Film
  9. The evolution of the SitCom genre
Choose wisely!

Use your head and not your heart - just because you play a lot of video games or read a lot of magazines does NOT necessarily mean that you will be able to write a good essay about it.

On the other hand if you have no interest in a subject whatsoever then don't choose that one either!
